When B6 was advanced through the former UST area in January 2000,
high levels of soil contamination were evidenced at 10 feet bsg. The March 3, 2000 "Report of Findings"
recommended excavation of the soil in the area of B6. PHS/EHD agrees that removal of the contaminated
soil in the location of the former gasoline UST's is a viable remedial alternative for soil. Since
contamination was documented below 10 feet, excavation of contaminated soil should extend below 10 feet
E and below groundwater. Prior to excavation in this area, MW3 should be destroyed under pemrit and
k
inspection of PHS/EHD.
In January 2000 the soil results from 30 feet bsg in B6 showed 30 micrograms per kilogram of methyl
f
tertiary butyl ether (MtBE). The vertical extent of soil contamination was not defined by this phase of
investigation. In addition, the vertical extent of groundwater contamination has not been defined.
i Therefore, once excavation has been performed to remove the mass of soil contamination, additional soil
and groundwater investigation must be conducted. This would include replacement of MW3 and a
monitoring well screened 30 feet bsg.
Submit a work plan to PHS/EHD to excavate the impacted soil around B6 and define the lateral and
vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination by July 30, 2001 , PHS/EHD agrees with the
suggestion made in the "Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report" dated May 17, 2001 that quarterly
monitoring may exclude total petroleum hydrocarbons as motor oil.
