Site Code : 2251
425 Larch Rd.
Tracy, CA 95376
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report dated August 13 , 1999
prepared by Blakely Environmental Investigations, Inc. for the above referenced site.
The report evidences petroleum contamination in all Monitoring Wells (MWs) at this
site. Further investigation of contamination in groundwater and soil at this site will be
necessary.
In 1996 borings were completed in the area where the Underground Storage Tanks were
previously located. Soil samples were collected at a maximum depth of 11 feet below
surface grade (bsg) in Boring # 1 . Benzene was evidenced in this boring at 1 . 5 parts per
million (ppm) in soil 11 feet bsg. This was the deepest soil sample collected in the
contaminant source area. Soil samples collected at 10 .2 feet bsg in Boring #4 evidenced
Benzene concentrations in soil as high as 21 . 5 ppm. The vertical extent of contamination
in the contaminant source area has not been determined. It will be necessary to determine
the vertical extent of of soil contamination in the source area. Once the vertical extent of
soil contamination is known, the lateral extent can be evaluated. In addition, the vertical
extent of groundwater contamination may be evaluated.
The lateral extent of groundwater contamination has not been identified at the above
referenced site. Additional MWs will need to be installed to determine the lateral extent
of groundwater contamination at this site as shown in the current monitoring wells. After
evaluation of the vertical extent of groundwater contamination additional deeper screened
monitoring wells may be required. Prior to the placement of additional MWs a complete
well survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any other wells within a
2,000 foot radius of this site should be conducted. PHS/EHD requested a well survey be
conducted at this site in a letter dated December 18, 1998 . No well survey information
has been received by this office.
Submit a Work Plan to determine the lateral and vertical extent of contamination at this
site to PHS/EHD by October 29, 1999. Also provide a well survey report to PHS/EHD
by October 29, 1999,
A Division of San Joaquin County Heatth Care Services
