F9ow <br /> 6A TRAINING PROGRAM CONTENT <br /> BEH's Health and Safety Training Program involves instruction, self-study and field exercises in the <br /> following areas: <br /> Science of Hazardous Materials: Chemical and physical properties of hazardous <br /> materials. <br /> * Toxicology: Dose response, routes of exposure, toxic effects and exposure limits. <br /> _ * Industrial Hygiene: Selection and use of proper protective equipment and clothing to <br /> ensure minimal contact with contamination, along with the proper methods to <br /> decontaminate non-disposable equipment. <br /> * Decontamination: The methods to don and doff protective equipment and clothing to <br /> lensure minimal contact with contamination, along with the proper methods, to <br /> decontaminate non-disposable equipment. <br /> * Emergencies: Potential emergency situations, first aid, self-rescue techniques, emergency <br /> drills, Record keeping and investigation. <br /> * BEII Procedures: All aspects of the BEH Health and Safety Program for Hazardous <br /> Waste Site Operations, site-specific HASP, the Corrective Action Plan, and company <br /> standard operating procedures regarding these areas: <br /> * Names of personnel and alternates responsible for site safety and health; <br /> Known or suspected health and safety hazards; <br /> * Proper use of personal protective equipment; <br /> * Work Practices to minimize risks; <br /> Safe use of engineering controls and equipment; <br /> * Medical surveillance requirements; <br /> l * Site control measures; <br /> l * Decontamination procedures. <br /> L , <br /> 7. MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE <br /> 7.1 GENERAL <br /> A medical surveillance program has been instituted by BEII for all employees with potential exposure to <br /> f. ; hazardous substances. An initial medical examination is given upon initiation of employment, annually thereafter, <br /> _ and upon termination (if the employee has not had an examination within the last six months). In addition, baseline <br /> monitoring andjob termination monitoring may be established to document exposure for project personnel. <br /> jSubcontractors working with hazardous materials or in the site exclusion zones will be required to have their own <br /> L company medical monitoring plan that meets BEII standards at a minimum. <br /> 702 EXAMINATIONS <br /> I , <br /> Each team member must have a physical examination prior to working on-site to verify that he/she is <br /> physically able to use protective equipment (including respirators), work in hot or cold environments and have no <br /> predispositions to occupationally-induced disease. The medical program will also consist of periodic follow-up <br /> exams and additional exams as needed to evaluate specific exposures of unexplainable illnesses.
