Calculation notes:
' 1 The following calculations use an elliptical model of the contaminant plume with
R1 equaling the tong axis and R2 equaling the short axis, as shown below
I
R
.............................................2
' 2 The Area(A)of the plume will be calculated using the formula for the area of an
ellipse as follows
' A=n(R1/2)(R2/2)
3 The water column for the shallow groundwater as observed in previous boring
' advancement and groundwater sampling is approximately 10' to 15' in thickness.
The volume will be calculated using the volume of the contaminant plume
(elliptical area)multiplied by the water thickness. A volume range will be
' identified for the range of aquifer thickness
VI =A(10') and V2 =A(15')
' 4. A soilorosi of 0 58 (general porosity for clays)will be used to calculate the
P ty g
volume of groundwater in soil,modifying the previous formulas to-
VI =A 10' 0 58 and V2=A(15')(0.58)
' 5 The units are calculated in cubic feet and converted to liters(L):
35 314 cubic feet= 1 cubic meter
' 1 cubic meter= 1,000 liter
28.31.7 L: 1 cubic foot
1
1
1
1
