7hmdwe11&Ro110 <br /> • <br /> monitored or remediated under the oversight of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health <br /> Division Leaking Underground Storage Tank Group (SJCEHD). <br /> 1.2.1 Operable Unit 1 <br /> 1.2.1.1 Area 10 <br /> Description <br /> This site is referred to as the Banner Island Site and is owned by the SDHR. The site is located <br /> north of the Stockton Deep Water Channel, south of West Lindsay Street, and between Van <br /> Buren and North Madison Streets. Currently,the surface of the site is predominantly soil with <br /> some areas of asphaltic pavement and concrete (Figure 2). <br /> • Site History <br /> Banner Island was formally a delta island, reclaimed during the 1920s. The site was leased by <br /> the City of Stockton to the Guntert and Zimmerman Construction Division, Inc., and used for <br /> shipbuilding and repair and storage of steel until the 1970s. Figure 2 shows the approximate <br /> locations of former buildings. All structures have been demolished and removed, and are <br /> underground utilities and storage tanks were reportedly removed. <br /> Previous site investigations were performed by WaterWork (1990), RESNA (1992, 1992a), <br /> Luhdorff& Scalmanini (1993), Harza(1995), and Treadwell &Rollo (Treadwell & Rollo 1996, <br /> 1999). Each report,with the exertion of the Treadwell & Rollo 1999 report, is included in <br /> Appendix C of this report and briefly summarized below. <br /> WaterWork was retained by the City of Stockton to perform a"...subsurface assessment of a <br /> portion of the Banner Island property." This included the area referred to as Area 10.
