7h3adwe11&W10
• The groundwater gradient varies from approximately 0.01 feet per foot(ft/ft) at Area 10 to
approximately 0.002 ft/ft at Area 15. The November 1999 quarterly groundwater monitoring
reports prepared by AGE for areas 15 and 16 (Appendix B) show groundwater gradients of
gradients of approximately 0.003 ft/ft and 0.0008 ft/ft respectively.
3.7 Demography and Land Use
The study area sites are located in industrial/conunercial areas, south of the residential
neighborhood that begins on the north side of Fremont Street. The residential area is comprised
of predominantly single-family residences. No residences exist within the study area.
4.0 NATURE AND EXTENT OF CONTAMINATION
The work performed during the study of the Stockton North Shore parcels confirms that soil and
groundwater contamination, generally in the form of petroleum fuel hydrocarbons and metals, is
• present at most sites in varying degrees. This study generally confirms the prior site
characterization work. Low concentrations of SVOCs have been detected in soil at several sites,
and in most cases appear to be related to petroleum fuel hydrocarbons. A summary of the
findings of the field investigation for each site follows.
4.1 Environmental Impacts at Operable Unit 1
4.1.1 Area 10
The primary contaminants of concern in soil at the Banner Island site are lead and petroleum
hydrocarbons. Elevated concentrations of a limited number of other contaminants such as
arsenic have been have been detected, but at concentrations far below the California hazardous
criteria or the non-carcinogenic Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs) for industrial sites
established by the USEPA.
25
25970309.DGD 24 August 2000
