exceeding TTLC levels, concentrations of total xylenes near analytical detection limits, and
elevated concentrations of total copper, zinc, and mercury. However, the soil contamination
was shallower in the borings on the eastern portion of the parcel, and ground-water
contaminants (total petroleum hydrocarbons and naphthalenes) were detected only in boring
134, located on the western portion of the parcel southwest of the former ship-building and
steel-fabrication shop. As a result, it appears that contamination is not as extensive
(vertically) on the eastern portion of the parcel. The petroleum hydrocarbons (in soil and
ground water) and naphthalenes (ground water) have been reported by the laboratory to be
typical of aged gasoline and hydraulic oil.
r
