cbCurtis &Tompkins,Ltd,
MEMO
RECEIVED
Date: June 26, 2000 JUN 2 7 2000
To: David Dixon, T&R TREADWELL&ROLLO
From: Steve Stanley, C&T
RE: Stockton Redevelopment
I have reviewed your memo of June 21, 2000 and have located and attached the missing
pages to this memo. Listed below are the specific answers to your questions regarding
the three sample delivery groups (SDGs).
145154
The paint contamination present in the TPH-Extractable analysis is limited to the two
peaks observed at approximately the six to seven minute period on the chromatogram. I
have attached a copy of the paint chromatogram showing these two peaks. This
contamination was contained in glassware that was located in the kiln Curtis & Tompkins
• (C&T) uses to bake organics from the glassware. The contamination entered into the
glassware from an aerosol spray performed near the kiln over the weekend. The
contamination was not observable at the time it occurred, but was recognized upon
analysis of the extracts obtained from use of this glassware. Since the recommended
hold time for sample extraction had been exceeded at the time of discovery, the suspect
contamination was confirmed through re-analysis.
The suspect paint contamination pattern appears on most of the samples from this SDG.
Because there may be underlying and contributing peak area in the range where the
suspect paint peaks occur, this area cannot be subtracted from the sample result obtained.
The result may, however, be flagged (C&T uses a"Y") to indicate that the pattern does
not resemble diesel. Additionally, a request was not made to treat the samples with silica
gel that removes non-petroleum hydrocarbons. There may be peak area contribution
from non-petroleum sources in these reported results.
Finally, per your request, I am including copies of the chromatograms provided in the
final report reprinted at a scale similar to the paint contamination chromatogram.
145268
Included in the attached pages are the sample results and method blank, as well as the run
log for the samples (Page 4 of 6 in the run log).
•
