Weber Street; Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Workplan.for Well Abandonment Activities at 203 South Lincoln Street, Manteca,
California .
I4
r P
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
ATC Associates has prepared this workplan for the groundwater monitoring well abandonment
activities at the above referenced site(Figure 1). In a conversation with Margaret Lagorio of San
Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) on March 26,
1998, ATC was informed that PHSIEHD had granted site closure. The.location of the monitoring
well to.be abandoned is shown on Figure 2. A permit application and associated fee (check No. 125) t
are attached.
The well willbe abandoned b a C57 licensed drilling company. The well box and top two feet of
Y g
casing will be removed. The well will be abandoned by filling the well casing and filter.pack with
a neat cement/bentonite grout utilizing a.pressure grouting tool.. For protection of the seal at the
land surface, a hole at least two feet in diameter will-be excavated around the outside of the well
casing to.a -depth of approximately two feet below ground-surface. The sealing grout will be
allowed to spill over into the excavation. After the grout is set, the excavation will be filled with
native soil.. Currently, there is one 55=gallon drum stored on site containing soil cuttings from the
well installation. ATC proposes to spread out the soil cuttings on site. Analytical results of the
soil samples were nondetectable..
All work will be completed in accordance with Smith Technology's Site Safety Plan (SSP) dated
October 1997. Upon completion of abandoning the well, ATC will prepare a brief letter report
describing well,abandonment activities.
