Additional Phase I and Phase HEnvironmental Site Assessments Tracy, California
Home Depot, U.S.A. Inc.
3.2 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
All samples were preserved on ice and transported with proper chain-of-custody documentation
to McCampbell Analytical Laboratory in Pacheco, California. Soil samples from the borings
were analyzed for the following parameters:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline (TPG-g) and diesel (TPH-d) carbon chain
ranges, and higher carbon chain range petroleum hydrocarbons ("heavier" hydrocarbons, such
as oils) by EPA Method 8015 modified (Cal-DHS).
Groundwater grab samples were analyzed for the following parameters:
• TPG-g and TPH-d carbon chain ranges, and higher carbon chain range petroleum
hydrocarbons ("heavier" hydrocarbons, such as oils) by EPA Method 8015 modified (Cal-
DHS).
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 8260.
Composite surface soil samples were analyzed for the following parameters:
• Persistent organochlorine pesticides by USEPA Method 8080, organophosphate pesticides by
USEPA Method 8140, and chlorinated herbicides by USEPA Method 8151.
Copies of the Certified Analytical Reports are included in Appendix B.
3.3 FIELD OBSERVATIONS
The soils observed at four boring locations consist primarily of clayey to fine sandy silt of low to
moderate plasticity, silty clay of moderate to high plasticity, and scattered lenses of silty fine
sand. The upper approximately 2 feet is generally dark brown in color, changing to yellowish
brown with depth. A layer of well sorted, fine to medium grained sand was observed between
7.5 and 12 feet bgs in SB-2. No significant staining or odors were observed in any of the soil.
Boring logs are presented in Appendix C.
Groundwater was encountered below approximately 8 feet bgs, occurring in sand and silt layers
found below those depths in all four borings. The water content of shallower soils ranged from
damp to moist.
3.4 ANALYTICAL RESULTS
The analytical results for soils (soil boring and composite area samples) are listed in Table 1. The
results for the groundwater grab samples are listed in Table 2. Copies of Certified Analytical
Reports are included in Appendix B. Analyses of soil and groundwater samples from the four
Geoprobe borings for TPH-g, TPH-d and VOCs yielded non-detect results. Analyses for
G:home\clarkeb\projects\homedepo\tracy\addp I&2.doc 3-3 October 2000
