SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the Phase II environmental site assessment performed by Roy
F. Weston, Inc. (WESTONO) at an approximately 12 acre property in the city of Tracy, San
Joaquin County, California. The property is located approximately 1,000 feet northwest of the
interchange of West Grant Line Road and Interstate 205, and northwest of the intersection of
West Grant Line Road and Naglee Road (Figure 1). It is our understanding that Home Depot,
U.S.A., Incorporated (Home Depot) intends to develop the subject property with a retail store.
The purpose of the Phase II assessment was to determine whether recent or past practices at the
site and adjacent areas, including possible use of pesticides and/or herbicides, have impacted soil
or groundwater. This investigation was conducted in general accordance with the scope of work
described in WESTON's proposal and amendment dated 28 April, 1999 and 10 May, 1999.
The primary Phase II assessment field work was completed on 12 May 1999, and consisted of
the following activities:
• Advancement and soil sampling of three direct push borings to a maximum of 16 feet below
ground surface (bgs).
• Collecting grab samples of the shallow groundwater encountered within the borings.
• Collecting composite samples of surficial soils in three areas of the property.
The samples were analyzed for the following constituents:
• Three soil samples from the borings were analyzed for total recoverable petroleum
hydrocarbons (TRPH).
• Three groundwater grab samples were analyzed for gasoline and diesel range petroleum
hydrocarbons, TRPH, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and chlorinated pesticides and
herbicides.
• Three surficial soil composite samples were analyzed for chlorinated pesticides and
herbicides.
SAwhc\wp\shared I\projects\homedepo\tracyph2.doc 1-1 July 1999
