SECTION 4
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the results of the soil and groundwater sampling in the borings and the composite
surficial soil sampling, the following conclusions are made with respect to the environmental
conditions observed at the subject property:
• No physical indication (i.e., appearance or odor) of environmental impacts was observed in
any of the soils or groundwater sampled at the property.
• Analyses for total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbon (TRPH) in soils from the borings and
in the groundwater grab samples all yielded non-detect results. Further, analyses of the
groundwater grab samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel ranges
(TPH-g, TPH-d) and for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) also yielded non-detect results.
Therefore, no indications of impacts to subsurface soils or groundwater from petroleum
hydrocarbons or VOCs were found in the study area.
• Analyses for organochlorine pesticides and chlorinated herbicides in surficial soil composite
samples and groundwater grab samples yielded non-detect results with one exception. The
herbicide Dalapon (2,2-dichloropropionic acid) was found in one composite surficial soil
sample at a concentration of 270 ug/kg, which is just above the detection limit for this
compound. Soils containing trace Dalapon residues are not regulated as hazardous waste.
Further, the concentration found in the soil is below the USEPA Region IX Preliminary
Remedial Goal (PRG) for Dalapon in residential use soils. Therefore, no indications of any
significant impacts to soils or groundwater from these types of pesticides and herbicides were
found in the study area.
• WESTON concludes that the existing site soils and the groundwater at the subject property do
not appear to show evidence of environmental impacts that would present a concern with
respect to the proposed development of the property.
SAwhc\wp\sharedI\projects\homedepo\tracyph2.doc 4-1 July 1999
