10 January 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1224
The soil samples were very moist to saturated.Petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors were not detected
in any of the collected samples.
4.2. LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Four soil and ground water samples were selected for analysis. MTBE was detected in the ground
water sample from B-4 at a concentration of 40 micrograms per liter(gg/l;parts per billion). No other
target analytes were detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in the analyzed soil or ground
water samples. A copy of the laboratory report(CTEL Project No. CT214-0411143) is provided in
Appendix C.
No target analytes were detected in the ground water sample submitted from the on-site domestic
well. A copy of the laboratory report (CTEL Project No. CT214-0412064) is provided in
Appendix C.
5.0. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Based on the data collected from the site in this investigation, AGE finds:
• Orange-brown sand was encountered at 5 feet bsg east of the building;green-brown clay was
encountered west of the building at the same depth. Brown to gray-blue clayey silt to silty
sand was encountered at 10 feet bsg. Gray-blue to blue-gray sand to silty sand was
encountered at 15 feet bsg; some gray-blue silty clay was present below the sand at the west
side of the building. Samples were very moist to saturated. No organic vapors were detected.
• Target analytes were not detected in the soil and ground water samples collected from
borings B-1 through B-3, located near the former UST area, east of the building.
• MTBE was detected in the `grab' ground water sample collected from boring B-4, located
near the northwest corner of the building, approximately 10 feet southwest of the on-site
domestic well. The MTBE concentration of 40 micrograms per liter(µg/1)is above the State
of California Maximum Contaminant Level(MCL)of 13 µg/1 for MTBE in drinking water.
AGE has not identified the source or the vertical and lateral extent of the MTBE west of the
building.
• Target analytes were not detected in the ground water sample collected from the on-site
domestic well.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
