State of California California Environmental
Protection Agency
MEMORANDUM
To: File Date: June 6, 2006
From: --_—
Terry Smith
Waste Tire anagement Branch
Permitting&Enforcement Section
CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD
Subject: PHONE LOG REGARDING PGM RECYCLING,INC.
SWIS NO.39-TI-1037; TPID NO. 1107176
On June 6, 2006, I called and spoke with Michael W.Kirkle, Fire Chief with the Woodbridge Rural Fire
Protection District, regarding the PGM Recycling, Inc. facility located at 19414 North Hwy 99. I have
been reviewing PGMs' minor waste tire facility permit application, received May 25, 2006, and I needed
to talk to the fire department to verify what they approved at the facility. Mr.Kirkle informed me during
our phone conversation that his department inspected the facility March 18, 2005, and found the facility
in compliance with the Uniform Fire Code. He further stated that they, as the local fire authority,
approved alternative tire storage standards at this facility in the following areas:
• Fire equipment is adequate--one 10 lb. dry chemical fire extinguisher
• Water supply is adequate In the event of a fire, the FD will use water from the mobile home
park adjacent to the facility and a water truck in the event of a fire at the facility
• Indoor storage—although is doesn't meet 231D requirements, the indoor tire storage at PGM is
not considered a fire risk
