AllWest personnel will be onsite to direct and monitor the sampling process. Prior to actual field
sampling activities, a drilling permit will be obtained from the Marin County Environmental Health
Department. AllWest will also provide advance notification to the San Rafael Fire Department to
allow agency inspection.
C. Pesticide Sampling
Eight shallow soil samples, P-1 through P-8, will be collected from the actively farmed areas of the
subject property. The sampling locations will be selected by use of a random number table. The
pesticide samples will be collected by use of hand auger or other hand held sampling device. The
soil samples will be placed precleaned sampling containers The samples will be collected
approximately 6 to 12-inches below ground surface. Similar sampling handling and
decontamination procedures described below will be followed.
D. Sediment Sampling
Two sediment samples, S-1 and S-2,will be collected from the wash located along the south side of
the subject property. This wash routinely receives runoff from Patterson Pass Business Park located
on the south side of Schulte Road. The sediment samples will be collected by use of hand auger or
other hand held sampling device and placed preclean sampling containers. The samples will be
collected approximately 6 to 12-inches below ground surface. Similar sampling handling and
decontamination procedures described below will be followed.
E. Well Sampling
As part this investigation, the on-site groundwater well will be sampled. The well reportedly is
approximately 300 feet deep with the pump set at about 160 feet below ground surface. The well
water has been reported in the past to be slightly alkali (salty) and contain elevated concentrations
of the boron. The groundwater sample will collected via the faucet after the well pump is allowed to
run for approximately five minutes. The groundwater sample will be placed in a precleaned sample
bottle and handled under procedures described below.
IV. QUALITY ASSURANCE / QUALITY CONTROL
PROGRAM
A. Sample Preservation, Storage and Handling
To prevent the loss of constituents of interest, samples will be preserved by storing them in an ice
chest cooled to 4°C with crushed ice immediately after collection and during transportation to the
laboratory. The standard chain-of-custody protocols as presented below will be followed through
all stages of sample handling.
5
