00-3737
3.2.2 Soil
Paragon observed Site soils beneath asphalt paving to consist of several inches of
brown silty sand underlain by dark gray, plastic (malleable) silt to a depth of four
feet. This material may be fill, as it contains brick fragments at boring location P-
4. We encountered brown sand with varying amounts of silt beneath this layer to
the maximum depth we advanced borings (16.5 feet). Appendix C (Boring Logs)
includes detailed subsurface soil descriptions.
3.3 Hydrology
3.3. 1 Surface Water
Paragon did not observe any surface water at the Site. We did observe a man-
made pond within the Lakeview Village residential complex located across
Shoreline Drive from the Site. The closest point of this pond is approximately 90
feet south of the Site.
The Site is in the San Joaquin River Drainage Basin of the Central Valley
Drainage System. According to the USGS topographic map, an extension of
Mosher Slough is located approximately 700 feet (0.13 miles) west of the Site,
and Fivemile Slough is located within 2,000 feet (0.39 miles) south of the Site.
Surface runoff would be to the south, towards a man-made pond located across
Shoreline Drive if unimpeded. A system of shallow concrete drainage ditches and
stormwater catchbasins collects runoff from paved portions of The Landing
Shopping Center.
3.3.2 Groundwater Flow Direction
Based upon topography and direction of nearby surface waterbodies, Paragon
inferred that Site groundwater flows generally southerly, towards the man-made
pond across Shoreline Drive.
Paragon obtained groundwater elevation data and performed a stadia survey of
monitoring well locations and wellhead elevations on August 3, 2000. Table 2 on
the following page summarizes these data; see Figure 5 for an illustration of
groundwater elevations and 0.01-foot contours.
3422 West Hammer Lane,Stockton, California
—6—
