06/o31'99 16:40 FAX 510 113 0344 QST MARTINEZ 1Z003,'007
Mr.Jeff Wong
June 3, 1999
Page 2
Iylonito Vsle]<l Installation: The well will be installed in accordance with industry accepted practices
and subject to state and local requirements for unconsolidated monitor well con=uction. The
monitor well will be h)stalled by an experience monitor well driller, under the direct supervision of
a QST geologist. Drilling in the overburden aquif' r will be performed through the use of 4 1/4-inch
hollow stern augers to facilitate the installation of the well.
The boring for the well will be continuously sampled at two foot increments over the entire depth
with a 2-inch outer diameter split spoon sampler. The split spoons will be collected at two foot
increments in each well boring by driving the split spoon, ahead of the borehole into undisturbed soil
using a.140-pound hau=cr with an average fall of 30 inches. Once the desired depth is reached, the
split spoon will be advanced by the drill rig as per ASTM 4D1586-94. Upon retrieval, the split
spoon will be opened, soil samples will be visually classified and field screened with a photo
ionization detector(PID)to identify potential contamination_
Soil samples will be collected from the increment containing the highest PID reading and from the
increment at the top of the water table(interface of the vadose zone and saturated soil). Collected
samples will be placed in the appropriate containers for the specific analysis, and placed into the
sample shuttle at 4 degrees C for transport to the laboratory. The selected soil samples will be
analyzed is accordance with Method 8260B for carbon t:tnauWvride, carbon disulfide and
chloroform.
The well will be in;,-talled with 2-inch diameter, Schedule 40,FVC riser and 10 feet of 0.010 inch
slot, Schedule 40, PVC well screen. The riser and screen will be capped on both ends. Only
threaded joints will be used for the well casing. Sand pack around the annular space of the screen
will be the appropriate size sand based on the screen slot size.
The sand will extend one foot above the screen. A.two foot hydrated bentonite pellet seal will be
placed over the sand. Soil cuttings generated during the drilling will be drummed, labeled and
placed in a designated location at the facility for proper disposal by the CLIENT_
Nell development will be performed for a period of one hour through low yield sustained pumping,
or until the sediment fines are removed from the discharge water and pH and specific conductance
of the water has stabilized. Development water will be drwiamed, labeled and placed in a designated
location at the facility for proper disposal by the CLIENT.
QLQM xd2Wkg Quality Evaluation:The ground water sampling wmponent consists of the collection
of a groundwater quality sample from the newly installed well at the site.
