Geomatrix
SOIL INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
MonierLifetile, LLC Lathrop and French Camp Facilities
Lathrop and French Camp, California
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) has prepared this Soil Investigation Work Plan (Work
Plan) on behalf of MonierLifetile LLC (MonierLifetile) to present the proposed scope of work
for the drilling and sampling of soil at MonierLifetile's Lathrop and French Camp Facilities
(the Facilities) located in Lathrop and French Camp, California(Figure 1). The French Camp
facility is located approximately 6 miles south of Stockton, California; and the Lathrop Facility
is located approximately'/2 mile south of the French Camp Facility.
This Work Plan was prepared in response to a request made by the Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) in its October 4, 2005 letter to MonierLifetile. In the
letter, the RWQCB requested the submittal of a work plan outlining a time schedule to
investigate the extent of diesel impacts to soil and groundwater underlying the broken and
uncured roof tile stockpiles by November 15, 2005, and the subsequent submittal of a report
summarizing the investigation findings to the RWQCB by February 15, 2006. I In addition to
the tasks requested by the RWQCB, this Work Plan includes a scope of work to complete the
vadose zone soil investigation beneath the stockpiles at each Facility as required in the existing
Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-01-722.
2.0 BACKGROUND
Based on an initial detection of chromium (Cr) and hexavalent Cr(Cr VI) from a one-time
collection of groundwater screening samples in 2001 (Brown and Caldwell, 2001), the
RWQCB requested further evaluation of the groundwater conditions at the Facilities in the
vicinity of the stockpiles. The stockpiled material consists of broken and uncured roof tile
material (URS Corporation [URS], December 2005).
A Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-01-722 (Order) was issued to MonierLifetile by the
Central Valley RWQCB on October 15, 2001. Pursuant to the Order, a groundwater
monitoring system was installed at each Facility as described in the Groundwater Monitoring
Plan (GMP) and Addendum (Brown and Caldwell, 2002). The groundwater monitoring system
was proposed to further assess groundwater quality, flow direction, and site specific
PAI 0626.000.0\Docs\MI.T Soil Work Plan.doc 1
