Introduction to Hazardous Waste MAY 0 4 2015
ENVIRONMENTAL
.!r ter_nr777Tn.nrpiT
The wording alone, Hazardous Waste, has an alien
connotation to it when it's not thought about very much.
Do not be alarmed, this simple guide will be an excellent
reference to refer to as a refresher, or training starting
manual.
Under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations
(CCR), the term hazardous substance refers to both
hazardous materials, and hazardous waste. Don't be
alarmed, both of these are classified according to four
recognizable properties: toxicity, reactivity, corrosiveness,
and ignitability.
A hazardous material is defined as a substance or
combination of substances that may cause extreme illness
to human health and or environmental health when
improperly managed. Hazardous wastes are hazardous
substances that no longer have practical use and require
proper disposal.
Here at West Valley Auto Spa Chevron, we encounter
many types of hazardous substances; used oil, gasoline,
diesel, used cat litter, absorbent pads and more are a few
examples of hazardous substances.
