Mansholt and Levy:
At your request, Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix), has prepared this work plan
for the TAOC Tracy Gravel Pits Property in Tracy, California(Figure 1; the site).
Previously Geomatrix conducted investigation activities at the site that were documented
in our August 30, 2004 Soil Investigation Report. At a September 29, 2004 meeting with
Geomatrix, Union Pacific Railroad Company(UPRR) and Chevron Environmental
Management Company(CEMC), it was agreed that Geomatrix would conduct additional
investigation activities to obtain data to assist in evaluating future options for disposition
of the property.
During the previous investigation, Geomatrix advanced 23 soil borings across the 34 acre
site. Analytical results from soil samples indicate that total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)
quantified as diesel (TPHd) and quantified as motor oil (TPHmo) are the primary constitu-
ents detected in soil samples collected from the northeast section of the site. In addition,
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were detected in several of these samples.
Affected soil appears to be limited to the northeastern section of the site and is generally
found at depths up to 8.5 feet below ground surface(bgs). Groundwater has not been
encountered or investigated at the site. Groundwater was not encountered or investigated at
the site. In a summary report, IT Group' estimated that the first water-bearing zone is at
approximately 55 feet bgs and that the regional groundwater flow is to the north based on
topography.
1 IT Group,2000,Draft Site Summary Report for Tracy Gravel Pit,January 5.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
Engineers, Geologists, and Environmental Scientists
