Michael Leacox
performance tests for shallow, intermediate, and deep zones; groundwater modeling,
and a contaminant migration evaluation.
Feasibility study, Los Banos, California - Conducted feasibility study to evaluate
alternatives for a clean water supply to an elementary school with a chromium-
contaminated well. Project included assessment of site geology and hydrogeology, and
local and regional groundwater quality. Alternatives included installation of a water
treatment system and a deeper production well.
Aquifer performance test, Lodi, California - Conducted and evaluated 72-hour aquifer
performance test to evaluate potential for vertical migration of high salinity water into
deeper, uncontaminated aquifers. Project included performance of step tests to
determine optimal pumping rates, and evaluation of data that included complex
interference from surrounding domestic, irrigation, and industrial wells in a multilayered
alluvial aquifer.
Soil and groundwater site assessment, San Pedro, California - Implemented site
assessment program to determine if past operating procedures at the facility had
resulted in soil and/or groundwater contamination. Investigative techniques included
geophysical surveys, soil borings and monitoring wells, and soil and groundwater
physical/chemical testing. Participated in aquifer characterization and preparation of
final engineering report.
Verification monitoring program, Mojave, California - Implemented verification
monitoring program to evaluate the presence and define the limits of hexavalent
chromium in layered alluvial aquifer at facility with multiple point sources. Study included
use of electrical resistivity and seismic .refraction geophysical techniques, well
installation, aquifer testing, soil and groundwater sampling, and geologic mapping.
Gasoline spill recovery, Indio and Blythe, California - Implemented and assisted in
the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of pneumatic and intrinsically safe
drawdown pumps, and pneumatic total-fluid and skimmer recovery pumps to remove
free product from groundwater.
Leak detection/tank monitoring program, Canoga Park, California - Implemented
tank monitoring program for 30 underground tanks. Installed and sampled groundwater
monitoring wells to determine if solvents, metal solutions, and/or hydrocarbon fuels and
oils were leaking from tanks. Assisted in performing ground penetrating radar survey to
locate buried underground tanks and utilities.
Solvent migration investigation/tank monitoring program, City of Industry,
California - Implemented underground tank monitoring program and managed field
investigation to evaluate facility with multiple solvent and metal sources. Supervised
well installation, sampling, and testing. Evaluated data to determine the horizontal and
vertical extent of plume migration and background contamination.
Monitoring well installation, Van Nuys, California - Implemented and managed
project that included installation of six 80-foot-deep monitoring wells to characterize the
extent of free product migration and groundwater contamination at a bulk terminal
facility.
