KLEINFELDER
August 15 1989 SCE}QED
File: 24-220012
AUG 1 81989
Mr. Allerton Blake -ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
pRojFCT,AAIIs'3an,A PERMIT/SERVICES
American Savings Bank Amencan sav+n9
P.O. Box 1047
Stockton, CA 95290-0076
SUBJECT: Sampling Results
1888 Lockheed Court
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Blake:
; t
Enclosed are the analytical results for the soil samples collected from the tank excavations
located at 1888 Lockheed Court, Stockton, California. Two 12,000 gallon underground
storage tanks (UGST) were excavated and removed from the south side of the American
Savings Bank building, and a 10,000 gallon (UGST) was excavated and removed from the
parking lot on the west side of the building. The three tanks reportedly held unleaded
gasoline. However, one of the 12,000 gallon tanks (the west tank on the south side of the
building) may have held aviation fuel at one time. Samples collected from the bottom the
tank excavations were submitted for chemical analysis. Total petroleum hydrocarbons and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene were not indicated 'in the analysis of eight
samples.
Sampling Activities
On July 19, 1989, a Kleinfelder geologist collected soil samples from the bottom of each of
the three tank excavations. A representative from the San Joaquin Local Health District
(SJLHD), Mr. Charles Hunt, was present throughout the sampling process. Mr. Hunt
specified the sample locations and analyses according to SJLHD guidelines. Three samples
were collected beneath each of the 12,000 gallon tanks, and two samples were collected
beneath the 10,000 gallon tank. The bottom of the excavations was approximately 14 feet
below the ground surface, and soil samples were collected at an approximate depth of.16
feet. The soil samples consisted of moist, brown sand and sandy clay. The sand
encountered was fine grained and partially cemented.
Soil samples were obtained by driving clean brass tubes into the soil collected in the
backhoe bucket. Sample tubes were decontaminated prior to sampling by washing in a
solution of trisodium phosphate (TSP), followed by a distilled water rinse. Each tube was
retracted, capped with Teflon sheeting and tightly fitting plastic end caps. Samples were
labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody and stored on ice until delivery to California
Analytical Laboratories/Enseco in West Sacramento, California.
KLEINFELDER 9795 Business Park Drive, Sacram.nto, CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
