Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
RE: Request to Abandon Additional Monitoring Well, Tracy Cold Storage, Tracy,
California.
Site Code 505329
Dear Ms. Lagorio,
American Geological Services would like to request that an additional ground water
monitoring well, MW-8, be abandoned in conjunction with the abandonment of four
wells previously approved for destruction at the above-named site. Tree roots from a
willow tree have encroached into the well screen rendering the well inaccessible. It is our
opinion that any recovery efforts would be short-lived and therefore not cost effective.
Monitoring well MW-8 is located to the south of the identified ground water contaminant
plume and has indicated consistent non detectable levels of BTEX constituents since the
June 1996 sampling event. Historical analytical laboratory data for MW-8 ground water
samples are presented in the table below for reference.
Bate Benzene Tolucne Ethyl Total TPI -Gas MTBE
Collected (pg/L) (µg/L) Benzene Xylene (µg/L) (gg/L)
(µg/L) OWL)
MW-8
03/22/96 <0.3 0.4 1.2 2.7 420 NA
06/19/96 <0.3 <0.3 <0.3 <0.6 <50 <1.0
10/08/96 <0.3 <0.3 <0.3 <0.6 <50 NA
12/02/96 <0.3 <0.3 <0.3 <0.6 <50 NA
04/16/97 <0.3 1 <0.3 <0.3 <0.6 60 NA
06/17/97 <0.3 <0.3 1 <0.3 1 <0.6 <50 NA
10/15/97 Well not sampled–tree root encroachment
12/19/97 Well not sampled–tree root encroachment
03/30/98 Well not sampled–tree root encroachment
Telephone (209) 532-8021 P.O.
