Cold stress and associated complications occur during periods of low temperature and/or <br /> high wind chill conditions. Under these conditions protective thermal clothing will be <br /> provided. <br /> ' 5.3.2 Hazardous Materials Exposure <br /> Air monitoring of the work area will be conducted to measure the levels of airborne <br /> ' organic vapors during sampling activities. Monitoring will confirm the proper level of <br /> protection is being used. Monitoring will be conducted using a photoionization detector <br /> (PID) equipped with a 10.2 ev lamp. The PID will be calibrated at the discretion of the <br /> Health and Safety Officer. All calibration readings shall be recorded on a log form. <br /> Background readings will be collected upwind from the site. <br /> ' The Health and Safety Officer shall require all site personnel to utilize the proper level of <br /> PPE or leave the site until monitoring confirms a safe working environment. The <br /> maximum level of PPE_which may be required on this project is anticipated to be Level <br /> C. Most likely only level D protection will be necessary. <br /> 5.3.3 Personal Protective Equipment <br /> The following are the EPA's recommended Levels of Personal Protective Equipment: <br /> Level A Provides the highest available level of respiratory, skin, and eye protection. <br /> • Pressure-demand, full-facepiece SCBA or pressure-demand supplied-air respirator <br /> with escape SCBA; <br /> Fully-encapsulated, chemical-resistant suit; <br /> Inner chemical-resistant gloves; <br /> Chemical-resistant safety boots/shoes; <br /> Two-way radio communications. <br /> Optional: <br /> ' Cooling Unit; <br /> Coveralls; <br /> ' Long cotton underwear; <br /> Disposable gloves and boot covers. <br /> CA95 DE-029 <br /> American Geological Services, Inc. <br /> �� 7 <br />
