15 July 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0450
each 6-inch Iength of the sampler(blow counts) are to be recorded on boring logs compiled by an
AGE staff geologist.
Upon sample retrieval, the leading brass sleeve will be removed from the sampler. The ends of the
sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon sheets and sealed with plastic end caps secured with
tape. The preserved samples will then be immediately placed under ice in a chilled container for
transportation to a state-certified laboratory. Each soil sample sleeve will be labeled with boring
location, vertical depth, sampling time, date and sampler's initials.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All auger stems will be streamed cleaned prior to
advancement in each boring location.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and grab ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d), volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene: BTE&X) and other oxygenated fuel additives tertiary butyl
alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPS), ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETRE) and tertiary amyl methyl
ether (TAME) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m/5030 and 8020/602 and 826018260111. If
field observations indicate that other petroleum hydrocarbons are present, additional analysis may
be necessary.
Selected soil samples may also be analyzed for intrinsic permeability, moisture content and porosity
in accordance with the appropriate EPA or ASTM methods. Additionally two soil samples will be
analyzed for physicochemical and bio-enumeration by an independent microbiologist, to determine
natural-biodegradation of the hydrocarbon-impacted soils at the site.
Laboratory reports of soil analyzes, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with the
findings and recommendations.
Adranced Geo Environ mental.Inc.
