27 October 2003
• AGE-NC Project No 98-0450
t5 1 1 Confirmation Soil Sample Collection
Discrete confirmation soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 10 feet bsg, using
' a Geoprobe push-driven 2-inch diameter soil sampler fitted with four six-Inch long brass sleeves
Soil samples were collected to a depth of 35 feet bsg in boring CB2, and to a depth of 35 feet bsg
in boring CB 1 before boring was terminated due to poor drilling conditions Confirmation soil
samples were preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping
and sealing with tape Each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with soil boring location, depth,
' time, date and sampler's initials and was stored in a chilled container under ice
' S 12 Equipment Decontamination and Boring Abandonment
All probing rods used were cleaned prior to advancement in each probe boring location The
' sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each
sampling run to avoid cross-contamination
At the conclusion of soil boring activities, the bonngs were permanently sealed to prevent vertical
migration of contaminants Under EHD oversight, the borehole was backfilled with cement slurry
from the total depth to surface grade
5 1 3 Laboratory Analysis of Confirmation Soil. Samples
The confirmation soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody procedures to McCampbeIl
Analytical, Inc (MM, a State of California - Department of Health Service (DHS)-certified
' laboratory in Pacheco, California, to be analyzed for
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) and the fuel additives methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether (D1PE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE), tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B
5 14 Analytical Results of Confirmation Soil Samples
' Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected only in confirmation soil samples collected from boring CBI,
in the former UST area TPH-g was detected in one soil sample (CBI-35) at a concentration of
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
