Advanced Geo Environmental, Inc
MBP-Lodi
November 17, 1998
page 2
COMMENT
The samples submitted for analyses revealed no recoverable heterotrophic or selective
microorganisms at the dilutions tested While bionutrient conditions are well within the range
of support for microbial growth and metabolism, pH is relatively high, and may partially
account for the paucity of microbial growth It should be noted however, that unless the high
pH was due to a relatively recent event (such a a spill of caustic material), one would have
expected a subpopulat,on of microbes to have developed over time which is reasonably well
' adapted to growth under moderately alakaline conditions These results suggest the possibility
that some level of biotoxicity exists at the site, and efforts should be considered in order to
further evaluate this possibility Such biotoxicity can be due to excessive levels of metals,
' salt, or other, as yet unidentified material present microbiological and physicochemical
conditions at the locations represented by the samples evaluated are not consistent with
natural bioattenuation, and induced bioremediation should not be attempted unless and until
the source of the apparent biotoxicity can be identified and mitigated
' Should you have any questions concerning these results, please do not hesitate to contact me
AKK ch
1
1
 E
