' 16 January 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0450
each well-head at wells IAS-1 through IAS-9 and connected to the outlet of the air-compressor
on-site.
' Induced vacuum was measured utilizing a Magnehelic vacuum gauge attached to the inlet of the
blower; SVE air flow was monitored using a Dwyer DS-200 or Blue While flow sensor. The SVE
air flow along the effluent-line was monitored routinely for the presence of organic vapor using an
' organic vapor analyzer (OVA) equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID: Thermo
Environmental 580B; 10.0 eV; calibrated to isobutylene). Sampling ports were installed upstream
of the vacuum blower inlet to recover SVE influent air flow vapor stream samples to monitor the
' hydrocarbon concentrations.Field measurements were recorded at regular intervals throughout the
quarters and are summarized in Table 5; SVE performance at the site is summarized in Table 6.
' Seven sets of soil-vapor samples were collected during the third and fourth quarters of 2002. The
samples were collected in Tedlar vapor bags using a vacuum pump attached to the influent stream
sample ports. These samples were labeled, placed in a pre-chilled cooler and transported under
chain-of-custody to MAI. The samples were analyzed for:
• • (TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified and
• BTEX in accordance with EPA Method 8021B.
' 2.4. SPARGE ,SYSTEM MONITORING
' The effect of the IAS system was monitored utilizing a YSI-55 dissolved oxygen meter on ground
water.During each monitoring event, the depth to ground water and percentage of dissolved oxygen
' were measured for available monitoring wells. General system maintenance and adjustments were
performed at this time. The sparging flow rate was adjusted to approximately 4 standard cubic feet
per minute (scfin) and to a pressure of up to 6 pounds per square inch (psi) at the wells.
1
3.0. FINDINGS
' The contaminant impact to soil was quantified from the confirmation soil sample laboratory data.
Ground water elevation, flow direction and gradient were determined from field data collected on
11 December 2002; the contaminant impact to ground water was quantified from the ground water
laboratory data. From field data collected at the SVE remediation system between July and
December 2002, AGE determined the average TPH-g concentration, the average flow rate and
' calculated the approximate mass and volume of gasoline removed.
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
1
