Work Plan For Additional Subsurface Investigation - Chevron Service Station #9-3232
March 26, 1999
evaluate groundwater conditions. If subjective field evidence is encountered indicating hydrocarbon impact,
the proposed borings may be advanced deeper than 60 feet bgs, or additional borings may by advanced. Site
conditions will be reviewed with and permission obtained from SJCPHS-EHD prior to advancing additional
borings. To implement this scope of work, GR proposes the following four tasks:
Task 1. Pre-field Activities
GR will update the site-specific safety plan, and will obtain the necessary soil boring permit from
SJCPHD-EHD. USA will be notified at least 48 hours prior to initiating fieldwork. A private line
locator will be contracted to clear the boring locations.
Task 2. Soil Borings
GR will advance four soil borings to a depth of 60 feet bgs at the locations shown on Figure 2. The
borings will be advanced by a California-licensed well driller using a GeoProbee or similar
equipment that advances the boring equipment hydraulically. A GR geologist will monitor the field
activities and prepare a log of the boring. Soil samples for chemical analysis will be collected at
5-Foot intervals. Soil samples will be collected with a 1 -inch diameter split spoon sampler lined with
clean acrylic or brass tubing. Selected soil samples will be submitted for chemical analysis as
described in Task 3 . Upon completion all borings will be filled to ground surface with neat cement.
The GeoProbeg equipment does not generate soil cuttings. Water used in cleaning the drilling
equipment will be placed in a properly labeled drum and stored at the site pending disposal.
Integrated Wastestream Management (I WM) will transport the drummed water to McKittrick Waste
Management for proper disposal .
Task 3. Laboratory Analyses
Soil samples will be submitted for chemical analysis at Sequoia Analytical, 'a California state-
certified Hazardous Material Testing Laboratory (ELAP # 1210, # 1271 , and # 1624). Soil samples
will be analyzed for TPHg by the DHS LUFT method, and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes (BTEX) and MtBE by EPA Method 8020.
Task 4. Report Preparation
Following receipt and analysis of all data, a report will be prepared which summarizes the
procedures and findings associated with this investigation. This report will be submitted to Chevron
for its use and distribution.
PROJECT STAFF
Mr. Stephen J. Carter, a Registered Geologist in the State of California (R.G . No. 5577), will provide
technical oversight and review of the work. Mr. Greg Gurss, Senior Project Manager, will supervise
implementation of field and office operations. GR employs a staff of geologists, engineers, and technicians
who will assist with the project.
346463.04-1 3
