Kellogg Garden Products, Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
Mr. O'Brien:
On behalf of Kellogg Garden Products (Kellogg), we are submitting the enclosed Groundwater
Monitoring Well Installation Workplan as required by your September 9, 2004 letter. Based on
our evaluation of historic data we have determined that three of the existing wells are inadequate
for consistently monitoring groundwater quality and elevations at the Kellogg facility. This is
due in part to the fact that wells MW-I through MW-3 are seasonally reported as "dry" and/or as
not yielding enough water for required laboratory analysis. Therefore wells MW-I through
MW-3 will be converted to piezometers, for the purpose of monitoring groundwater elevations
only, when water is present. Three new wells will be drilled to replace groundwater quality
monitoring of the converted piezometers. We believe that this approach will provide both: 1)
additional groundwater elevation data for further assessment of the complex and poorly
understood hydrogeology underlying the facility; and, 2) wells for monitoring groundwater
quality up- and down-gradient of the contact waste water pond (and uncovered, product contact
area) for assessing potential impacts associated with facility operations.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this report.
Sincerely,
ECOLOGIC Engi
to.csa sz n:'l * ►_- Mi.76M
,t
Nil-
Neal Colwell, `c CA t\ tIU Thomas Bult CA1
RCE #59437 -'' R.G. #7653 /Qy
Attachment—Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
cc: Chris Littlefield—Kellogg Garden Products
777 North Pershing Avenue • Suite 2B • Stockton, California 95203 • Phone (209) 242-0292 • Fax (209) 461-6444
