u S%J
Kellogg Garden Products ECO:LOGIC Engineering
Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan KELG04-001
11/10/2004
feet above land surface to a depth of 4.0 feet. A 3.5-foot diameter, 4-inch thick concrete pad will be
poured surrounding each well.
Well Cap—2-inch diameter expandable, lockable pressure plug.
Surface Seal—Neat cement or cement grout will be placed from the land surface to a minimum depth of 20
feet and to the top of the bentonite seal. A minimum 2-feet of granular bentonite seal will be placed
from the top of the filter pack to the bottom of the neat cement surface seal.
Note that, where required, the above ground completion of the monitoring wells will have a minimum of three
6-inch diameter steel bollards filled with concrete. The above surface completion program is preferred to one
where the top of the monitoring well is encased in a subsurface box set at grade. The latter runs the risk of
having the well polluted by surface water that enters the box and covers the top of the monitoring well.
Figures 4 and 5 depict a typical monitoring well completion anticipated for this site.
EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES
Decontamination will comprise a hot water pressure wash of the drilling equipment and well purging and
flushing equipment with a non-phosphate detergent, followed by a clean water rinse. As a precaution against
cross-contamination between boreholes, the drilling and flushing equipment will be decontaminated prior to
the start of drilling or flushing of the first monitoring well and between each successive monitoring well.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Personal Protective Equipment
The Kellogg facility currently directs contact water(water in contact with composting materials)to the Contact
Water Pond for reuse or evaporation. Risks of exposure to hazardous chemical or biological agents originating
from the effluent is minimal. The practice of good personal hygiene by the crew is warranted and will further
reduce the exposure risk. Affected areas of the body shall be washed with clean soapy water followed by a
clean water rinse.
Level D personal protection equipment comprising a standard work uniform(coveralls, hard hat, gloves, steel-
toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.)shall be in practice during all work at the site.
Emergency Procedures
The telephone numbers of the appropriate entities to be contacted in case of emergency are as follows:
San Joaquin County Sheriff:Emergency 911,Non-emergency(209)468-4400;209-468-4167(fax)
Lockeford Fire District: Emergency 911,Non-emergency 209-727-0564
The nearest trauma center or emergency medical facility is:
Lodi Memorial Hospital-Emergency Room
1235 W Vine St,Lodi,CA 95240
209-339-7600
The driving route to Lodi Memorial Hospital is contained in Appendix B.
DRILLING DETAILS
Prior to drilling, permits will be obtained for well construction from the San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Management,Environmental Health Division:
5
