The workplan was required by the 9 September
2004 Regional Board correspondence.
I have the following comments on the workplan:
• Proposed Well MW-3R is identified as the background groundwater quality well. However the
well might be located downgradient of the storm water pond if the gradient is more to the south
than anticipated. Therefore, please consider moving the well to an area near the Administration
Building, which is likely to be upgradient of all potential site source areas.
• The workplan states the wells will be drilled using a sonic drill rig. If a sonic rig is used, well
centralizers will be needed to maintain a minimum two-inch seal thickness as required by
California Well Standards Section 9.C. Please submit a revised Typical Monitoring Well
Construction detail for well installation using a sonic drilling rig. In a telephone conversation
on 18 November 2004,Thomas Butler informed me that the wells might be installed using a
hollow stem auger drilling rig. Use of a hollow stem auger drilling rig is acceptable to staff and
eliminates the need to use centralizers or to submit a revised well construction detail
• The workplan includes plans to disinfect the wells immediately after development. You may
want to collect data prior to performing the disinfection to determine if it is necessary.
• The well sampling does not include all the analytes listed in the Revised Monitoring and
Reporting Program No. 5-00-227. Please add boron and iron to the list of analytes in the group
of standard minerals and collect the samples in the first quarter of the year rather than the fourth
quarter.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
