Addendum to the Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan, Kellogg
Garden Products Company,San Joaquin County
Dear Mr. O'Brien:
Thank you for your prompt review and conditional approval of the subject work plan. On
behalf of our client, Kellogg Garden Products Company,we are pleased to submit this
letter addendum, as requested by your November 19,2004 letter, which includes the
following modifications to the original Work Plan dated November 10, 2004:
• Propose background monitoring well MW-3R has been relocated along the
facilities eastern boundary, east of the administration building. This location is
preferred in order to minimize the potential for the storm- and/or contact- water
ponds from adversely impacting"background' groundwater quality. The new
proposed well location is identified in the revised Figure 2 (attached).
• Centralizer shall be used in each monitoring well in the event the sonic drilling
method is selected. Centralizers are necessary in order to maintain a minimum
two-inch seal thickness as required by the California Well Standards Section 9.C.
The approximate spacing of centralizers is identified in the revised Figure 4
(attached). Please note that centralizers will not be used should the wells be
constructed using a hollow-stem auger drill rig. We will confirm, either verbally
or via email, in the event we decide to use the hollow-stem auger instead of the
sonic drill rig, formally documenting the selected method in the well completion
report.
• Well disinfection will not be conducted immediately after development. Instead,
samples will first be collected and analyzed to verify if coliform is of concern.
Well disinfection procedures or other recommend actions will be proposed should
elevated coliform levels fail to decline within the following two quarters of
subsequent groundwater monitoring.
777 North Pershing Avenue• Suite 28 • Stockton, California 95203• Phone (209) 242-0292 • Fax (209) 461-6444
