%W %.04
Work Plan—Soil Boring Installation Page 3
Former UPRR Service Yard
Project 376.2
March 31, 2003
2.2 Soil Sampling and Analyses
Lo
The soil sample collection procedure will be as follows. Upon retrieval, the end of each
plastic sample tube removed from the coring device and possibly submitted for laboratory
kw analysis will be sealed with Teflon sheets or aluminum foil, capped with plastic end caps,
secured with tape, labeled, and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory
using Chain of Custody protocol. Chain of Custody (CofC) forms are documents used to
Lo track the handling of samples. All dates, times, persons and companies handling the samples
were listed from the time the sample was collected to its ultimate disposal.
All sampling equipment will be thoroughly steam cleaned before and between uses. No soil
cuttings will be generated during the Geo-Probe drilling process.
It is anticipated that at least one soil sample from S13-2 and S13-3 will be submitted for
analysis as follows:
4..
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TEPH) by EPA method 8015(m). The
detection limit for this analysis is 5 mg/Kg for diesel and 20 mg/Kg for oil.
La
2.1.3 Groundwater Sample Collection & Analysis
L„ A groundwater samples will be collected from SB-I using the Geo-Probe's groundwater
sampling device. This consists of a four-foot long hollow rod fitted with a drive point, which
is attached to the end of the Geo-Probe stem. This rod is driven four feet into groundwater
Lo and retracted to expose the stainless steel screen inside of the device.
Groundwater samples will be obtained by oscillating a clean dedicated section of Teflon
L- tubing inserted inside of the hollow stem of the Geo-Probe. This causes groundwater to rise
to the surface. Samples will be collected in I-liter amber glass bottles and 40-mm VOA
vials. Each sample container will then be labeled and placed into an ice chest chilled to 4°C
to await transport to the laboratory under chain of custody protocol.
It is anticipated that one groundwater sample from S13-1 will be submitted for analysis as
follows:
ti. • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (EPA Method 8015(m)).
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylene (BTEX by EPA method 602).
5 Oxygenates MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME & TBA by EPA Method 8260.
ti..
The following table summarizes the method detect limits (MDL).
L. 2937 Veneman Avenue, Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
