fire
Im
`r Site Assessment Work Plan Advanced Environmental doncepts, Inc.
r
Methods D 1586-84 for split-barrel sampling of soil and D 1587-83 for thin-walled tube sampling of
soils. The brass sleeves and sampler will be washed in an Alconox solution and double rinsed in clean
de-ionized water prior to each use.
r
Soil samples will be driven at the capillary fringe. The blow counts, recovery, and lithology will be
recorded on the field logs. Lithology will be described in accordance with ASTM Method D 2488-84
r (Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils). Selected soil samples will be sealed with
teflon tape, capped, sealed with duct tape, and labeled in accordance with EPA protocols. The
samples will be recorded on a Chain-of-Custody document, placed in a cooler with frozen blue ice, and
r
transported to a California Certified Laboratory under Chain-of-Custody protocol.
5.3 Field Screening of Soil Samples
r
Soil samples will be collected using three 1.5 x 6-inch brass tubes installed inside a-split-spoon
sampler. The middle sample tube will be immediately capped, sealed, labeled, and stored in an ice
chest containing blue ice. The bottom tube will be used for lithologic description, and the top tube will
be used for field screening. A headspace reading using the PID will be collected and documented on
the boring log.
..r
5.4 Soil Analyses
The soil samples will be analyzed by Baseline Analysis, Inc. in Huntington Beach, a California Certified
Laboratory with state guidelines and EPA protocols. Selected samples will be analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) by CA DHS methods and volafile aromatic organics
r, (BTEX) and MTBE by EPA method 8020.
. 5.5 Installation of Monitoring Wells
Each monitoring well will be constructed according to Figure 4, Appendix A and installed in the
following manner: Approbmately 20 feet of new 2-inch,flush-threaded, Schedule 40 PVC casing will
r be set in the well through the auger. The bottom 10 feet will be composed of 0.010-inch factory slotted
liner, thus 5-feet of slotted casing will be above the potentiometric surface allowing for seasonal
fluctuations in the water table and to permit sampling of the air/water interface. Number 2116 Monterey
+•• sand will be slowly poured down the annulus while removing 5 feet of auger at a time. The filter pack
will be placed 1 foot above the screened interval. A 6 foot seal of hydrated bentonite with be poured
above the sand filter pack. A cement/bentonite slurry will be used to fill the annular space to within 1
r
foot of grade level. The well cover stovepipes will then be cemented in.
5.6 Well Development/Sampling
r
Each monitoring well will be developed using a submersible pump, or bailer, approximately 24-hours
after installation. The wells will be pumped until the effluent is clear and free of fine-grained sediments
and then be allowed to regain equilibrium before sampling and measuring depth to groundwater.
too Project: AEC 95C-1917 4
• ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPTS WITH DESIGN IN MIND-
4400 ASHE ROAD.0206 BAKERSFIELD.CA 93313 8051831-1646 • FAX 805/831-1771
No
