Airport Way
Stockton , CA 95206
San Joaquin County Public Health Services , Environmental Health
Division ( PHS / EHD ) has recently reviewed the analytical results
of the soil samples taken from beneath the underground storage
tanks that were removed from this site during the periods of
1987 - 1990 .
Although the laboratory results from each tank removal indicated
no detection of volatile organic hydrocarbons , the detection
limits cannot be applied to current standards . ( see chart below )
Current standards , laboratory detection limits , and / or the site
specific characteristics ( i . e . depth to seasonal high
groundwater , nearby wells , septic systems ) make it impossible for
PHS / EHD to evaluate these tanks for closure .
According to the Leaking Underground Fuel Tank ( LUFT ) field
manual ( February 1989 ) detection limits for soil analysis are
. 005 ppm for volatile hydrocarbons and 10 . 0 ppm for total
petroleum hydrocarbon .
If site closure certification is necessary , PHS / EHD would not be
able to provide it without further investigation of the 8
underground storage tank removal sites listed below . However ,
PHS / EHD is not , at this time , requesting further investigation of
these specific tank locations .
Detection Limit Chart
1987 -88 Current ( LUFT )
Benzene . 2 ppm . 005 ppm
Toluene . 2 ppm . 005 ppm
Xylene . 2 ppm . 015 ppm
A Divisum of San Joaquin Counry Hvalrh Care rvic" C p
