CeolagicatTeclucicsficc. - Page 2
Additional Site Characterization
&4"Quarter Groundwater Monitoring
Project No. 1030.2
February 20,2004
In April of 2002, GTI and V&W Drilling installed one deep monitoring well to 35 feet
below grade (MW-101). On June 18, 2002, GTI prepared and submitted the Site
Characterization, Monitoring Well Installation and Groundwater Monitoring Report
' documenting the work performed during April of 2002. The report recommended
continued groundwater monitoring and testing for biodegradation indicators. The
recommendations were approved by Ms Lori Duncan in a letter dated July 22, 2002.
' On September 30, 2002, GTI prepared and submitted the 3`d Quarter 2002 Groundwater
Monitoring Report recommending the site be considered for closure. The request was
denied by Ms Duncan in a letter dated March 3, 2003. A meeting was scheduled between
' Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair, Ms Duncan and Eric Price of GTI for March 27, 2003 to discuss the
direction of the project and remediation alternatives.
' On March 3, 2003, Lori Duncan directed Sinclair Trucking to develop a site conceptual
model. In addition to the site conceptual model, Ms Duncan requested investigation of a
potential NNW/SSE trending sand channel. GTI prepared and submitted the Initial Site
' Conceptual Model on June 18, 2003.
On June 24, 2003, GTI prepared and submitted the Monitoring Well Installation &
Geoprobe Investigation Work Plan. Ms Duncan approved the work plan in the letter dated
' July 18, 2003, with the following caveats (in summary):
• Install one shallow monitoring well to a depth of 20 feet bgs and add it to the existing
routine quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling program.
• The GeoProbe soil borings are to begin within five feet of previously encountered soil
contamination.
• SJC/EHD does not approve the collection of groundwater samples from these borings.
' • Submit cost comparisons for the remedial alternatives discussed in the submitted
Feasibility Study dated June 25, 2003.
r Two borings should be advanced at locations requested by SJC/EHD in the March 3,
' 2003 correspondence, to investigate the possible NNW/SSE trenching channel.
The following report documents the work performed at the Sinclair Trucking site in
' accordance to the June 24, 2003, work plan and the 4" quarter groundwater-monitoring
event.
' 2.0 SOIL & GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
' On November 12, 2003, Geological Technics Inc. supervised the installation of one shallow
groundwater-monitoring well (MW-5). The location of the new monitoring well is shown
on the site snap (Figure 2).
Monitoring well permits were secured from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (SJC/EHD). The local regulatory agency was notified 48 hours prior to
commencing work. The subsurface was cleared of underground utilities by notifying
' Underground Service Alert.
