' • • LFR Levine-Fricke
' 1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan presents proposed methods and procedures to install, develop, and
sample one groundwater monitoring at the Tracy Tire Fire Site located in San Joaquin
County, California ("the Site"; Figures 1 and 2). This work plan was prepared by LFR
Levine-Fricke (LFR) on behalf of the California Integrated Waste Management Board
(CIWMB). The proposed well is being installed to further evaluate groundwater quality
' downgradient from an area excavated during July 2005 as described in Section 1.1.
1.1 Background
Two grab groundwater samples ("POND-A-01" and "POND-A-02") were collected
' from the bottom of an excavation that extended below the static water table on July 29,
2005. The static level of the ponded water within the excavation corresponds with the
static water table at this location based on depth-to-water measurements in the adjacent
' well (MW-01).
The grab groundwater samples were analyzed for the following compounds:
' total petroleum hydrocarbons as motor oil (TPHmo) and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) by EPA Method 8015
' semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) by EPA Method 8270
• volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 8260
Tables 1 and 2 present the analytical results for samples POND-A-01 and POND-A-02,
respectively. Analytical results indicate that TPHmo was detected above laboratory
reporting limits in both the groundwater samples (POND-A-01; 580 micrograms per
' liter [µg/1] and POND-A-02; 1,500 µg/1). TPHd was also detected above the laboratory
reporting limit in the two groundwater samples (POND-A-01; 3,900 µg/l and POND-
A-02; 10,000 µg/1).
Naphthalene was the only SVOC detected in groundwater samples POND-A-01 (9.5
µg/1) and POND-A-02 (22 µg/1). VOCs detected in the groundwater samples collected
from the excavation ranged from 0.3 pg/1 of carbon disulfide (POND-A-01) to 380
µg/l of p-isopropyltoluene (POND-A-02).
' 1.2 Site Description
The Tracy Tire Fire Site consists of approximately 50 acres of land located between the
Teichert Aggregate and RMC Pacific Materials aggregate mining operations in Tracy,
California (Figure 1). The Site is located at 29425 South MacArthur Road (Section 9,
' Township 3 south, Range 5 east of the Mount Diablo Base Meridian) (Ecology and
' wp-MW-06_Install-Sep05-final-09025v2.d.:LFR Page 1
