VALLEY REGION
aoAo -
.CA 95627-3098
b September 193
Mr. Charles Nichols
EISA Petroleum Corporation
P.O. Box 1839
Santa Monica, CA 90406
GROUND WATER CONTAMINATION AT USA FUEL STATIQVS, SAN JOA4UIN '`, k •, H ` LTH
Our files indicate that the following USA stations have ground water
contamination:
1. USA Station #65, 2500 best Lodi Avenue, Lodi
2. USA Station #110, 2132 East Mariposa Road, Stockton
Reports submitted 1n October 1987 by your consultant, Applied GeoSystems,
demonstrate that petroleum hydrocarbons have leaked into the environment from
your storage or distribution systems. Our concerns are that the extent of
contamination has not been determined at these sites and the lack, of activity by
USA Petroleum to complete the work. Following are our reviews of the reports
and additional investigations necessary at each site:
1. USA Station #65
The "Delineation of Hydrocarbon -Contamination and Hydrogeologic
Characterization" report prepared by Applied GeoSystems (13 October
1987) with excerpts of a Pacific Environmental Group report, indicates
that contaminated ground water exists beneath the product storage area
and extends south at least 120 feet (MW-3) . The lack of any
additional monitoring wells in the indicated ground water flow
direction (S400E) makes it impossible to determine the actual extent
of contamination at this time. To further define the extent of
contamination, USA Petroleum Corporation is requested to submit a
Preliminary Report by 30 September 1988: Included in the report is to
be a time schedule for completing a Problem Assessment Report by
30 December 1988.
2. USA Station #110
The "Installation of Two Ground Water Monitoring dells" report
prepared by Applied GeoSystems (7 October 1987) shows ground water
contamination at this site (an excess of two feet of free product in
monitoring well S-2 adjacent to the tanks and sheens in the other two
monitoring wells). Ground water gradients at the site may be affected,
by the number of domestic wells within a 2000-foot radius of the site.
USA Petroleum is to contact the County Health District concerning the .
need to monitor domestic wells on a regular basis. Please submit 'a
Preliminary Report for this facility by 26 September 1988. In the
report include a time schedule for completing a Problem Assessment
Report by 12 December 1988.
.. `-*} .... J'!E'tK. ► ,ids;, ? ::+u''h'-',J y r- .'.7'H...
