contamination. Contamination may possibly have resulted from
past releases or overfilling of tanks. '
Applied GeoSystems proposes to provide the data necessary to
better define the source and distribution of contamination and to
evaluate the ground water flow direction. In our opinion, three
monitoring wells should 'be installed, which will allow evaluation
of the ground water flow direction and lateral changes in
hydrocarbon concentration on the site. One well would be
installed near the northwest corner of the site, one well -would
be located near the south end of the on-site car wash, and one
well would be located south of the dispenser islands near the
cashier office. The wells will contribute to plume definition
and allow the evaluation of hydrocarbon concentration trends.
The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board expressed
concern at a May 8, 1987 meeting that elevated soil hydrocarbon
contamination likely exists beneath the site. The Board
requested that a soil vapor investigation be conducted to
evaluate the extent of soil contamination and that soil
mitigation also be conducted. This proposed investigation will
not include a soil vapor study. we feel that a better soil
contamination delineation program can be designed after
evaluating the results of the ground water monitoring well
installation.
Our proposed procedure is described in the work plan. Please do
not hesitate to call if you should have any questions regarding
the work done to date or- the proposed future work.
Sincerely,
Applied GeoSystems
Rodger C.
