I
• SVE SYSTEM QUARTERLY OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
Equipment Inventory: 100 cfm Stealth Catalytic Oxidizer_ _
Operating Mode: Operational
APCD Permit No.: N-903-2-0
TPH Concentration End of Period (lab): 5,900 m /_M
Benzene Concentration End of Period (lab): <2.5 Mg/M3
MTBE Concentration End of Period (lab): <2.5 Mg/M3 _
Flow Rate End of Period: 75 cubic feet per minute
HC Destroyed this Period (lab): 10.15 pounds
Cumulative HC Destroyed: 3467.25
Cumulative flow: NA
Percent Time Operational: 0.1%
DISCUSSION:
At the time of the third quarter monitoring event, groundwater was encountered in the monitoring wells at
depths ranging from 42.92 to 44.64 feet bgs. Groundwater elevations in the monitoring wells decreased
approximately 1 to 1.5 feet since the second quarter 2002 sampling event. The groundwater flow direction
on August 12, 2002 was calculated to be towards the southeast at an average gradient of 0.001ft/ft west
and south of the site. A south-southeast groundwater flow direction has consistently been observed
during previous monitoring events. Radial groundwater flow is observed onsite in the vicinity of well S-2.
TPHG (210 pg/L), benzene (2.1 µg/L), and MTBE (12 pg1L) were detected in the sample collected from
well S-1. TPHG (540 µg/L), MTBE (43 pg/L), and TBA (9.2 I g/L) were detected in the sample collected
from monitoring well MW-3. Concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates were
reported below laboratory detection limits for the samples collected from wells S-2, MW1, MW-2, MW-4,
and MW-6 through MW-10.
Three site visits were conducted during the third quarter 2002 to monitor, optimize system performance,
and conduct maintenance. Influent and effluent air samples were collected on July 8 and August 12,
2002, and forwarded to Alpha Analytical for analysis.
The SVES extracted approximately 10 pounds of TPHG during the third quaver 2002, and has extracted a
cumulative mass of approximately 3,467 pounds of TPHG since startup. The SVES is in compliance with
the SJVUAPCD. Due to low influent concentrations the soil vapor extraction system was operated
intermittently during the third quarter and shut down on August 12, 2002. Stratus will prepare and submit
a permit application to SJVUAPCD to extract, abate, and discharge soil vapors using activated carbon
vessels.
P:IUSA Gasoline100651Qtr1y120021newUSA_65_3Q02.DOC STRATUS
