Mr.Harlin Knoll August 29,2001
2°d Quarter 2001 QMR Project No. 2007-0065-01
Page 5
atmosphere. On May 3, 2001, a Stratus technician connected the new vapor well VW-1
to the SUES.
Tables 4, 5, and 6 show the operating time, flow rates, analytical results of air samples,
and the mass extraction and emission rates of the SVES. Field data sheets are presented
in Appendix B. Figure 4 presents changes in influent TPHG concentrations and
cumulative mass removed since startup.
During the second quarter 2001, six site visits were conducted to monitor, optimize
system performance and conduct maintenance. Influent and effluent air samples were
collected on April 2, 2001, May 7, 2001, and June 04, 2001, and forwarded to Alpha
Analytical for analysis. Certified analytical reports and chain-of-custody documentation
for air samples are included in Appendix C.
Influent soil vapor concentrations to the catox increased after VW-1 was brought online.
Stratus also collected vapor samples from MW-8, S-1, S-2, and VW-1 to evaluate
petroleum hydrocarbon contributions from each well. The highest concentration of
TPHG was detected in well VW-1 at 1,900 mg/m3(see Appendix Q.
• The SVES has extracted a cumulative mass of 2,644.58 pounds quantified as TPHG from
the subsurface. The mass extraction rates have increased from the first quarter due to
increased influent concentrations. The SVES is in compliance with the SJVUAPCD.
Stratus will continue to optimize and maintain the SVES during the third quarter 2001.
CONCLUSIONS
The highest concentration of MTBE was detected in groundwater sample collected from
monitoring well S-1. The highest concentrations of TPHG and benzene were detected in
the sample collected from monitoring well MW-3. Petroleum hydrocarbon
concentrations continue to decline in onsite monitoring wells MW-8, S-1 and S-2.
Groundwater flow direction outside of the radius of the SVES was toward the south-
southeast at an average gradient of 0.0025 ft./ft.. The SVES has extracted a cumulative
mass of approximately 2,644.58 pounds since startup, and 559 pounds of TPHG during
the second quarter 2001.
STATEMENT OF LIMITATIONS
The services described in this report were performed consistent with generally accepted
professional consulting principals and practices.
