Groundwater Gradient: 0.003 ft/ft
r SVE SYSTEM QUARTERLY OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
Equipment Inventory: 2.3 HP Fuji Blower, two 1,000 Ib carbon vessels
Operating Mode: _ Not operational
APCD Permit No.: N-4887-1-0 ATC
Influent TPHG Concentration End of Period: -
Influent Benzene Concentration End of Period: -
Flow Rate End of Period: -
HC Destroyed this Period (lab). -
Cumulative HC Destroyed: 3682.89 lbs.
Percent Time Operational: -
DISCUSSION:
At the time of the third quarter 2004 monitoring event, groundwater elevations had decreased between
1.52 and 3.15 feet in all wells (except S-1, which was dry) since the previous sampling event (April 6,
2004). Depth-to-water measurements were normalized to mean sea level (MSL), and were used to
construct a groundwater elevation contour map (Figure 2). The groundwater elevations in wells MW-10
and S-2 appeared anomalous and these wells were not used in the contour construction. The
groundwater flow direction on July 21, 2004, was calculated to be towards the south-southeast at a
gradient of 0.003 ft/ft. South-southeast groundwater flow direction has consistently been observed during
previous monitoring events.
TPHG (570 pg/L) and MTBE (32 µg/L) were reported in well S-2. Benzene was not reported in any of the
wells. TPHG (790 Etg/L) was also reported in well MW-3, and MTBE (18 pg/L) and TBA (100 pg/L) were
reported in well MW-8. DIPE, ETRE, TAME, methanol, or ethanol were not reported in any of the wells.
Analytical results are generally consistent with historical analytical data. TPHG, benzene, and MTBE data
have been summarized on Figure 3.
A SVE system consisting of 2.3 HP Fuji Blower and two 1,000 lbs vapor phase carbon units was shutdown
on March 12, 2004 due to low destruction efficiency of carbon treatment system. During the third quarter
2004, Stratus prepared and submitted an ATC application to SJVAPCD to construct, install, and operate a
Solleco 100 cfm electric catalytic oxidizer. Upon issuance of ATC, Stratus will construct, install, and
operate the SVE system during the fourth quarter 2004. The tabulated summaries of performance of
previously operated SVE systems are included in Appendix D,
ATTACHMENTS:
• Table 1 Groundwater Elevation and Analytical Summary
• Table 2 Groundwater Analytical Results for Oxygenates
• Figure 1 Site Location Map
• Figure 2 Groundwater Elevation Contour Map (Third Quarter 2004)
• Figure 3 Groundwater Analytical Summary(Third Quarter 2004)
• Appendix A Field Data Sheets
• Appendix B Sampling and Analysis Procedures
• Appendix C Certified Analytical Reports and Chain-of-Custody Documentation
• Appendix D Performance Summaries for Previous SVE Systems
PAUSA Gasoline100651Qtdy120041USA_65_3Q04.DOC 5MATUS
