SVE SYSTEM QUARTERLY OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
Equipment Inventory: 2.3 HP Fuji Blower, two 1,000 Ib carbon vessels
Operating Mode: Not operational
APCD Permit No.: N-4887-1-0 ATC
Influent TPHG Concentration End of Period: -
Influent Benzene Concentration End of Period: -
Flow Rate End of Period: -
HC Destroyed this Period (lab): -
Cumulative HC Destroyed: 3682.89 lbs.
Percent Time Operational: -
DISCUSSION:
At the time of the second quarter 2004 monitoring event, groundwater elevations had decreased between
0.09 and 1.27 feet in all wells (except S-1, which was dry) since the previous sampling event (January 7,
2004). Depth to water measurements were normalized to mean sea level (MSL), and were used to
construct a groundwater elevation contour map (Figure 2). The groundwater elevation in well MW-10
appeared anomalous and was not used in the contour construction. The groundwater flow direction on
April 6, 2004, was calculated to be towards the southeast at a gradient of 0.005 ft/ft. South-southeast
groundwater flow direction has consistently been observed during previous monitoring events.
TPHG and MTBE were reported in wells MW-8 and S-2. Benzene was not reported in any of the wells.
TPHG was reported in well MW-4. The highest concentration of TPHG (130 µg/L) was reported in well
S-2, and the highest concentration of MTBE (14 µ#L) was reported in wells MW-8 and S-2. TBA was
reported in wells MW-4 (6.1 pg/L), MW-8 (130 ug/L), and S-2 (110 µg/L). DI PE, ETBE, TAME, methanol,
or ethanol were not reported in any of the wells. Analytical results from the April 6, 2004, sampling event
are generally consistent with historical analytical data. TPHG, benzene, and MTBE data have been
summarized on Figure 3.
A SVE system consisting of 2.3 HP Fuji Slower and two 1,000 lbs vapor phase carbon units was shutdown
on March 12, 2004 due to low destruction efficiency of carbon treatment system. During the third quarter
2004, Stratus will procure a 100 cfm catalytic oxidizer and install on site. Prior to installation, Stratus will
prepare and submit an application to SJVAPCD requesting authorization to install the new catalytic
oxidizer. The tabulated summaries of performance of previously operated SVE systems are included in
Appendix D.
ATTACHMENTS:
• Table 1 Groundwater Elevation and Analytical Summary
• Table 2 Groundwater Analytical Results for Oxygenates
• Figure 1 Site Location Map
• Figure 2 Groundwater Elevation Contour Map (Second Quarter 2004)
• Figure 3 Groundwater Analytical Summary(Second Quarter 2004)
• Appendix A Field Data Sheets
Appendix B Sampling and Analysis Procedures
• Appendix C Certified Analytical Reports and Chain-of-Custody Documentation
• Appendix D Performance Summaries for Previous SVE Systems
PAUSA Gasoline100651Qtrly120041USA_65_2Q04.DOC 51 ATUS
