*400, Background
The site consists of three 12 , 000 gallon steel underground
storage tanks . Presently, the tanks store regular unleaded,
super unleaded, and premium unleaded gasoline . USA records
indicate no significant loss or gain in the inventory. The site
has three service islands, each with a vapor recovery system.
USA Petroleum has acquired 10 monitor wells in the course of the
investigation of this site. Six of these wells are located
within USA property and four wells are to the south in a
downgradient direction (see Figure 3) . After the existing wells
were in place (excluding MW8) , a Problem Assessment Report was
prepared December 5, 1989 . This report is included in Appendix A
of the Quarterly Monitoring Report of September 24 , 1991 . It
presents Soil Boring analysis, Ground water analysis, Ground
water flow direction, Aquifer test data with an estimate of
transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity, and an evaluation of
the zero line of contamination.
Implementation of January 4 1993 Work Plan
Western Geo-Engineers proposed in the January 4, 1993 work plan
to drill and install one ground water monitoring well at USA
Petroleum Station ##65, 2500 W. Lodi Ave . , Lodi, CA. On February
8, 1993 , implementation, of this work plan had begun with the
drilling and installation of MW8 . The placement of MW8 is 8 feet
southeast of the tank field and in the down gradient flow
direction, see Figure 3 .
Limited Drilling Report, February 25, 1993 .
To document the soil samples taken at each interval during the
drilling of the boring a WEGE field geologist prepared a boring
log. A Limited Drilling Report was prepared on February 25, 1993
to present the well construction and its methods and procedures,
see Appendix C; the work plan for this drilling effort, dated
January 4, 1993 , indicated that this well will be sampled for the
first time during the March 1993 quarterly ground water sample
round.
Preparatory Work
In advance of drilling, Underground Service Alert (ref. #29586)
was informed prior to drilling on site, utilities were to be
marked in paint coming onto and within the USA Petroleum Corp.
property if drilling were to occur near these utilities . As an
added security the boring was hand augured to 5' prior to
drilling in the event ' hidden' piping or utilities exist that
were not identified.
2
