The placement of MW8 is 8 feet southwest and in the
down gradient ground water flow direction, 'see Figure 1 .
Woodward Drilling Company (C-57 license, X581639) used a truck
mounted drilling rig, Mobile model B-57 with eight inch hollow
stem augurs to drill MW8 . The boring was hand augered by r
Woodward Drilling Co. to 5' prior to the rig drilling as an added
precaution in the event 'hidden' piping or utilities exist that
were not identified. The rig equipment :and augers were steam
cleaned prior- to use, and the sampling equipment was cleaned in
C, the same fashion between each sampling interval . In addition,
all lubricated parts that were to enter or approach the borings
were lubricated with olive oil .
To document the soil samples taken at each interval during the
drilling of the boring, a WEGE field geologist prepared a .boring
log. The samples were described and categorized using lithologic
descriptions and the Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix
A, Borehole Logs) .
The samples that were selected for analysis were based on the
;r criteria of the highest Photo Ionization Detector (PID) readings,
'i two representative zone samples, top of water and at the base of
;{ the borehole. This information is presented in Table 1 .
y The selected samples were. analyzed for Total Fuel Hydrocarbons
' (TFH) as gasoline, and Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons (BTEX)
utilizing EPA 5030 and 8020, respectively.
:4
L
MW8 was completed on February 8, 1993 to a depth of 60 feet . A
two inch PVC well with 25 feet of . 020" inch screen from 60 to 35
,t feet . The sand envelope for this well was #3 Monterey sand and a
lower seal of bentonite.
