Mr.`Fred Cruz, SJVAPCD August I9,2004
Authority to Construct an SVE System
j" USA 65,Lodi,California
Page 2
f '
Soil Vapor Extraction and Abatement
Petroleum hydrocarbon vapors will be extracted from extraction wells S-1, S-2, and
MW-8 (see Figure 2) using a 5 hp Roots positive displacement blower package rated at
100 cfm @ 14" Hg. The extracted soil vapors will be abated in the electric catalytic
j oxidizer prior to discharge to the atmosphere. Figure 3 illustrates the process flow
f diagram for the SVE system.;Equipment specifications for the proposed SVE system are
presented in Appendix B and pertinent equipment specifications are listed below: l
i • 'Stack height: 13 feet',
+ Stack inner diameter: 6 inches (circular)
h
+ Stack temperature: 600° 800'F
• BIower capacity: 100 cfm
i
'• Distance to the nearest building: approximately 150 feet LL 4
10 Distance to nearest residential building: 500 feet _
• Distance to nearest school: 1;056 feet (www.yahoo.com)
SVE System Start up and Operation
C
Stratus proposes to conduct system start-up and source testing programs for the proposed
SVE remediation system during the first 2 days of system operation. The following
parameters will be monitored and recorded on field data sheets during the system start up:
}
• Vapor extraction rate,
+ Applied vacuum at each vapor extraction well.,
• Influent flow in to the system, and
• PID measurements for organic vapors from the extraction wells.
During the source testing, one set of.influent and effluent air samples will be collected
and forwarded to a state-certified laboratory for analysis. The air samples will be
analyzed on a 24-hour turnaround basis for total petroleum hydrocarbons as Gasoline
(TPHG) by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8015, and
for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tertiary butyl
ether.(MTBE) by USEPA Method 8260. Analytical results will be used to calculate the
destruction efficiency of the system. Manufacturer's literature states that the destruction
efficiency for the system for petroleum hydrocarbons is 98 percent.
k
P:1USA Gasoline10065CorrespondencelUSA 65 ATC For New Unit1USA 65 ATC for new Unit.doc
J
