If the results are greater than or equal to 5.0 mg/kg and 10.0 mg/kg respectively, then the samples
should also be subjected to the waste extraction test to determine the soluble portion of the metal(s).
The citric acid extraction solution used in the waste extraction test should be substituted with deionized water
to produce results more indicative of actual site conditions.
The laboratory detection limits to be used for future analysis need to be as described in the Leaking
Underground Fuel Tank Manual, namely 0.005 parts per million for benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene and
0.015 parts per million for total xylenes.
Two confirmation soil samples are proposed in the workplan. The need for additional sampling may arise at
the time of the re-excavation. Please provide sufficient sampling equipment to accomodate any additional
sampling needed.
The re-excavation can be scheduled to begin at any time. Please provide 48 hours advance notification to this
office prior to any work at the site.
If there are any questions please contact Linda Turkatte, REHS,of my staff at (209) 468-0339.
Jogi Khanna, ., M.P.H.
Health Off
ne A.
