05 August 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0497
_ Page 3 of 5
3.0; SCOPE OF WORK
Based upon analytical results of soil samples collected upon removal of the two USTs in September
of 1998,the PHS-EHD has required this investigation'to determine the lateral and vertical extent of .
Hydrocarbon-impacted soil. Initially, AGE proposes to advance and sample three soil probe borings
afthe site. However; additional probe borings may be r' quired to adequately define the lateral and
vertical extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil.
The investigation will.consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil'sample collection and analysis;
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks are discussed below in detail.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained froiy the PHS-EHD. As required by PHS-EHD
permitting, a site specific health and safety plan will be repared in accordance with Occupational
Safety and Health Guidance Manualfor Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for'
Occupational Safety. and Health Administration, U. . Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to digging activities, each proposed digging location will be clearly
marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service AIert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Proposed soil boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2 Based on soil contamination encountered
beneath the former USTs at approximately 14 feet bsg ai d from beneath the former dispenser island
area, AGE proposes advancement of probe borings int e following locations:
• Less than 5 feet north of the former UST 2;
• Approximately 5 to 10 feet south of D-I(Dispe ser) soil sample location;
• Approximately 5 to 15 feet west of the former UST No. 1; and
Approximately 5 to 15 feet north of the former fuel dispenser island area.
Adranced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
