05 August 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0497
Page 3 of 5
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based upon analytical results of soil samples collected upon removal of the two USTs in September
of 1998,the PHS-EHD has required this investigation to determine the lateral and vertical extent of
hydrocarbon-impacted soil.Initially,AGE proposes to advance and sample three soil probe borings
at the site.However,additional probe borings may be required to adequately define the lateral,and
vertical extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil.
The investigation will consist of the following tasks'
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Repoit preparation.
Each of these tasks are discussed below in detail.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIV TIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the.,PHS-EHD. As required by PHS-EHD
permitting,a site specific health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational
Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Wase Site Activities (National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985).Prior to digging activities, each I roposed digging location will be clearly
marked and a utility clearance obtained through Undergro d Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYST
Proposed soil boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2. B ed on soil contamination encountered
beneath the former USTs at approximately 14 feet bsg and in beneath the former dispenser island
area,AGE proposes advancement of probe borings in the following locations:
• Less than 5 feet north of the former UST 2;
ApproximateIy 5 to 10 feet south of D-I(Dispense )soil sample location;
• Approximately 5 to 15 feet west of the former US No. 1;and
•
Approximately 5 to 15 feet north of the former fuel dispenser island area.
AdvoncedGteEnviropnunul,int.
